It’s time to acknowledge those with an interest in email and novels by Jane Austen. The first of many…

Update: Just want to thank all the Austen fans for spreading the word about this. As you can imagine, I wasn’t expecting much reaction given the post’s original appearance on a site about marketing. So it’s a pleasure to see people enjoying the inbox. Thank you.

These are PERFECT. Love that Charlotte's wedding pics are on Flickr…
This is awesome!!! I'm on such a mind trip right now. Pride and Prejudice here in the 21st Century. There would be no end to the hijinks! – L
My fav is, OMG! Brighton is so kewl! One of my fav stories, mention of my hometown and email in one post
Thanks all. I was surprised how modern the humor was in the book: had assumed the films / TV productions had updated the jokes for the 21st century.
Perfect! Loved the pics of Rosing's. Absolutely hilarious…
Oh please do one for Sherlock Holmes. And/or his nemesis, Moriarty.
Sherlock Holmes is a great idea – will give it some thought!
Very cute…but you spelled ‘Pemberley’ wrong. Major pet peeve.
JAFan – not my mistake: Elizabeth was in a hurry when she set up the Google News Alert
LOL! Then with that spelling she’s probably getting a lot of hits for bad fanfic. Seriously though, well done. Very clever.
Seriously – thanks for pointing the typo out. Although all these famous inboxes are meant to be fun, I do try and make them as accurate as possible in terms of names, themes, chronology etc. So my bad! If I get a chance, I’ll correct the screenshot…
Very well done! My favorite is Mr. Collins’ e-mail.
Love love LOVE the “Re: stop emailing me you…” bit. I nearly spit out my drink.
I loved this, couldn’t stop laughing, especially all the emails Mr. Darcy sent, and the one from the dry cleaners. I think one needs to be made for Mr. Darcy too!
I love the Google Alerts!
OK I work in a pharmacy so I LOVE the Valium e-mail
One of my FAVE books, so I am glad to see it get PR
I agree, Sherlock Holmes would be great!
So perfectly the 21st century Lydia.
Brilliant.
I loved the whole series of these inboxes, but the Elizabeth Bennett one is my absolute favorite!! They are so funny. I hope you do more in the future – maybe a Firefly one? Anyway, these are hilarious and thank you for sharing them!
From this am I left to assume the details I sent you regarding a proper etiquette course for ladies has ended up in your spam filter? What a shame, I do believe your sisters would have benefitted enormously from it.
Linda – there are several in planning and I’m being encouraged to split them off into their own site.
Lady Catherine – how kind of you to drop in. I should have put you in the original inbox!
Oh, this is great! I like the other inboxes, but I absolutely LOVE this one, (since it is the only one where I get all the jokes…
) Waiting for the next one with bated breath…
This makes me very happy.
Got linked here from a friend’s LiveJournal. This is brilliant. I think the ‘Stop emailing me, you sanctimonious prig…’ is my favourite, but they’re all inspired. Of course Mr Collins is sending MORE photos of Rosings’ fireplace, and naturally Lizzie has set up alerts for Mr Darcy and Pemberley. Sheer brilliance!
Haha! Brilliantly done! Very, very apt. Especially laughed at the forward from Jane about “Hot” Bingley, and Mr Collins’ “More photos” from Rosings!
Oh, how great this site is and what fun. Very clever of you. Please please keep it going. How about “Far from the Madding Crowd” – you could have great fun with Bathsheba, Troy, Gabriel Oak and Boldwood.
Linda – looks like I have a lot of reading ahead…
This is great!! Such a Jane Austen fan and Pride and Prejudice is my favorite. The inbox is perfect!
Love Jane Austen, love the comments, they are so funny! How about, ” her hair Louisa, did you see her hair? or,
” You know your father has will of iron” yeah right, he is so wrapped around those girls fingers.
This is great. I love Mr. Collin’s email with more pictures of the fireplace at Rosings- brilliant! Thanks for the laugh!
These were so funny! Have shared them with some of my fellow Janeites at the Janes Austen Society of North America-Greater Louisville Region (JASNA-Greater Louisville Region in Louisville, KY) that I belong to. Was also posted on the JASNA NY Facebook page. Thanks for choosing Jane Austen for this. A lot of Janeites will enjoy this.
P.S. Sorry for the typo – that should be Jane Austen Society of North America. Was just too excited reading the postings & my fingers just got a way from me.
Brilliant! Please do one for Sense and Sensibility!
I agree superb work
I think you need a “xxx tagged you in photo on facebook” email.
Thanks for sharing Deb.
Jennifer: stay tuned…
How clever. Thanks for the belly laugh
Love this, is the most clever and funiest thing I have ever read!
The e-mail form Jane that says “hot! check out bingley on a horse!”
It’s genious!
Congratulations
This is so funny! I love it!!!
Um, hey, hadn’t dear Lizzie changed her mind after the letter mr. D wrote her? I mean, concerning the “Stop e-mailing me you prick” sort of e-mail.
Loved this though.
Maybe. I think you could debate that her opinion on him had changed, but she didn’t really realize it until she saw him again and was forced to realize it.
Oh how this brightened up a dull evening for me – very entertaining! I’d love to have a peek at some of those emails…
OMG, this is really awesome. I laugh everytime I read it again. My favorite being Fw: Hot! Chk out Bingley on a horse. I hope there’ll be more of these. Thanks for making my day!
Just to confirm there will be another Jane Austen inbox before the end of December, and various literary ones lined up for next year. Not naming names: it’ll be a surprise!
Fantastic!! I really laugth at each
My favorite : “The answer still no, then?” from Darcy.
And I agree, Sherlock Holmes would be a great idea…
I’m really waiting for the new Jane Austen character Inbox… When?? When? When??
Great job!!
I’ll add my vote for Sense and Sensibility, Sherlock Holmes – loving that new series! – and add Wuthering Heights.
Well, let’s just say there are a lot of Penguin and Wordsworth Classics on my bedside table right now.
OK, Elinor Dashwood’s inbox is now up:
http://www.famousinboxes.com/2010/12/elinor-dashwood/
Absolute best thing I have seen in a while-laughed out loud-so desperately wanted to open them and read more.
LOL! “OMG! Brighton is so kewl” I nearly asphixiated myself with my iced tea!
Great work!!
The “About that bastard Wickham” one almost killed me. But they’re all brilliant. Well done
I love your inboxes! Very well done! Could you please do some from Persuasion?
Thanks Lori. I’m away on a long trip right now and am actually reading Persuasion as we speak!
Brighton is so kewl …I hurt myself laughing
